“I Can’t Hear You!”

This is exactly what these rebels think; that the “all-hearing God” can’t really hear their cynically harsh and rebellious words. Yet, God sees all things and hears all things; He is never unaware, nor is He indifferent. God’s eye is on every creature. God always hears what is said.

Such seems impossible to us, just as much as thinking God would just not bother to hear or see. It is, you may think, an extraneous use of God’s time. But such is not the God who is; He is someone who truly remembers all those whom He has created.

But so many, at any given time in history, think or say these words, “Who can hear me, anyway?” Or “Who really sees what I am doing? If I am alone, or out of the earshot or eyesight of anyone in real authority, who cares what I say or do? I can say or do whatever I please. There is no “hearing or seeing-God” anyway! Or, even if there is, God, is not listening to or seeing me!”

The Scripture clearly states that our words and activities are recorded. They will play a part in every unbeliever’s Judgment. What about believers? God has said he has removed their sins from His sight as far as the East is from the West, and He has plunged those sins into the deepest part of the sea.

Cynics who are impatient with the promise of the Lord’s return cynically spout, “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” (2 Peter 3:4) The invariable problem is: there is a common disparagement of God’s words. He said it, but they didn’t believe it.

These disparaging words, spoken or thought, are recorded. They do not float off into the ether space, never to be heard again. Though they may have been forgotten, when they are played back at the Judgment, they will be remembered with embarrassing regret. Said in momentary anger or flippant disregard, they are, nevertheless, words that were said and words that were recorded with an eternal recorder. At least, this is what the Bible says. And what the Bible says, always comes to pass.

The unbeliever treats such warnings flippantly and without any serious regard. The believer, however, never completely discounts what God says as written in His word. The blood of Christ atones for the sin of believers, yet the one of faith should still be cognizant of all he says and does, for such is always within the hearing and seeing of God.

Words are never meaningless, and acts are not forgettable in God’s mind. We ought to remember we serve an all-knowing and always present God, and live our lives as though we always are in His intimate presence, which we are. This is what it means to live out the constant presence of God by faith.

Never think God does not hear, and God does not see. But live knowing His eyes are on you and His ears are ever open to your cry. In the eyes of faith, this is comfort, not dreadful fear. In this world fraught with danger, you want to know you have such a loving God who is always on your side. He never slumbers, nor sleeps. He is ever your vigilant protector. He will never leave you nor forsake you! This is good! It is real! And it is best!
