By Stephen Leonard

“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons (and daughters). And because you are sons (and daughters), God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.” Galatians 4:5-7

We all have a father! It is a requirement of life. No one comes into being without a human father, even if only from a sperm bank. You may not know your father, or you may never have met him. You may count a stepfather as the one you knew as your primary earthly father. But all of us have One Father who is the Eternal and most precious Father of all. The One who truly makes all the difference in your world.

Yet this Father who ensures you are a Being in His universe can be ignored. This is a fact of being human and being created in His image; you CAN ignore Him, which is really to hate Him. “Ignore” is the same word as “hate” in the Hebrew vocabulary. God is the Creator of all, which includes those who choose to ignore Him.

Because a rebellion took place when sin entered the world between the Creator and the created, when you willingly desire to call and know your Creator as “Father,” you must be adopted by Him to become a member of His family. Yet to become a member of His family is to have every benefit worthy of any good bestowed on you.

If you are NOT His child, you simply are one who knows not God, and are removed from Him entirely. “Condemned” is the nature of any who know not God, nor desire to know Him. The condemned one is forever without Him. The definition of hell is to be isolated in a place that is fully without God. Alienated from God, you are removed from Him; and from His benefits, His Fatherhood, and His grace. You are, of all people, to be forever pitied. You are simply without! And always will be.

To be so blessed that you cannot conceive of anything better is to have God as your very own Father, the Father for whom you have always yearned. The Father who gives the definition to Father. There is no father, nor ever will be, a Father like unto God. In eternity, there will be no earthly fathers; they will all be fellow brothers in Christ. One Father abides in eternity; the Father of us all: God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

He will fulfill every blessing of Fatherhood to you. You will never be able to conceive of any other Father than the Father of your Lord and Savior. He will totally satisfy your every desire. He will be to you, your all in all.

And you will call Him “Abba,” that is, “daddy!” And you will love Him beyond measure as He indeed loves you, for He loved you when you still hated Him.

Encouragement

“His love is like a father’s to His children, tender and kind to all who fear His name; for well He knows our weakness and our frailty, He knows that we are dust, He knows our frame. Bless Him forever, wondrous in might, bless Him His servants that in His will delight.”
(3rd verse of Psalm 103 from the Psalter, 1912)
