A Tough Question

By Jeff Padgett, Ph.D.

I’ve often been asked the question (many times in an accusatory way), “How could a loving God send anyone to Hell?” Even though I may not have the answers to many questions in the vast cosmos of the universe, there are some facts I do know from the scripture I will share with you:

1. God is a just God.

There will never be an unjust judgment from God. God will never give an unjust judgment to any person. With that in mind, how do you answer this next question, “Would God send someone to hell who has never heard the gospel?” If Jesus Christ is the only way, what about people that lived before Jesus? What about someone who lives in a remote part of the world that never hears the gospel?

Remember, God is a just God and will never give an unjust judgment. Romans 1:18-20, “18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.

Since the beginning of time, God has testified of Himself to every person. So, no person has an excuse for an unrighteous life.

We try to answer these questions with human logic. Never, ever try to answer a Biblical question without the Bible. And according to this passage, He does it both internally and externally. Both inwardly and outwardly.

2. God is a loving God

Again, the question is: “How could a loving God send anyone to Hell?” In order to answer that question, we must answer it from a Biblical perspective, which is from God’s perspective.

Remember, God did not create Hell for people. He sent Jesus so that no one would have to go to hell. Jesus came to pay the price for every person. So, if a person seeks God and finds God, his sins will be forgiven through the Blood.

Hell was not created for people. Hell was created for the devil and his angels. Those that go there, go there as an intruder. Because people rebelled and resisted against God, hell was enlarged. Hell was enlarged by necessity. Not by design.

The title of this is A Tough Question. You might think the tough question is, “How could a loving God send anyone to Hell?” That is not a tough question. The tough question is, “How can anyone reject a loving God?”

The 2023 Bike Ride Recap

Seven Days. Five Hundred and Forty Miles. Through sunshine and rain, these guys endured. There were some accidents along the way and a broken bike or two. All of this did not stop these boys from pressing through. In the middle of the blood, sweat, and tears, the riders stuck together and encouraged each other. This, in turn, encouraged the rest of us!

It’s still not too late to contribute. Text BIKERIDE to 71777 to make your contribution today!
