The Vitality of Scripture

Scripture memorization is one of the non-negotiables at Paul Anderson Youth Home. Paul and Glenda, under God’s direction and calling, believed that the key to any successful life, must include spiritual as well as physical disciplines. The impact of this portion of the ministry at PAYH, is confirmed again and again in the lives, and testimonies of those who have passed this way through the years.
Isaiah 55:8-11, “8 For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are My ways your ways,” declares the Lord. 9 As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. 10 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, 11 so is My Word that goes out from My mouth: It will not return to Me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”
The discipline involved with the remarkable prowess and strength of an Olympic gold medalist, the unmistakable impact of the Creator’s hand on His creation, are both pictures of God’s movement and work in the lives of His children. The Word of God, committed to memory, will successfully accomplish His work in the lives of those who remember, and put it into practice. As we are watching the earth bloom, and become green, may we blossom and flourish as we grow in the Word of the Lord.
Volunteer Spotlight
This month, our volunteer spotlight shines on Derek Park. Derek is the gentleman who trains our young men and prepares them for the bike ride every year. There is quite a bit of involvement in getting oneself conditioned for this yearly ride, and Derek knows how to encourage, motivate and instruct our young men to step up to the task.
Derek graduated high school in Baxley, GA and college from Georgia Southern University. He married his sweetheart, Janna, in 2007. He and Janna have a Daughter, Kinsey, who is eight years old. The couple decided to purchase a poultry farm in 2009 and now have six chicken houses.
In addition to tending to his numerous chicken houses, he finds time to compete as a triathlete. Among those are the Iron Man Competition and many half-marathons and coaching his daughter in various sports.
He also has his private pilot license and loves to fly.
Derek is a deacon at First Baptist Church in Lyons and teaches the 10th – 12th grade Sunday School class.
Derek is truly a MAJOR asset to PAYH, and we are truly thankful for him and all he does for our young men.
“Start children off on the way they should go.” Proverbs 22:6.
Today, we honor and thank the men who have supported us and helped us in our walk with the Lord. We also give thanks to our Heavenly Father and the life He has given to us. Happy Father’s Day!
