July is marked by, what else, July 4th! It’s the birthday of our nation. Called Independence Day, it is celebrated with picnics, hamburgers, hotdogs, grilled steak, watermelon, family, and all topped off with fireworks at the dark of the day.
Psalm 39:4-5 (NLT), "4 LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered, and that my life is fleeing away. 5 My life is no longer than the width of my hand. An entire lifetime is just a moment to you; human existence is but a breath." Young people, in general, often feel that they are invincible and they have all the time in the world. As you get older, you discover that it is simply not true. I am reminded of the old adage, "The days are long, but the years are short."
No parent is ever prepared to find out their child is an addict. In the case of our son, Phillip, I was suspicious but preoccupied with profound life changes. My husband and I raised our children, Erin and Phillip, by following the Word of God, but sometimes, even the most dutiful parents do not see the warning signs.
